What To Do Before You Buy A Motorhome For Sale:

If you are looking to buy a motorhome for the first time, it can be challenging experience. After all, it is a large investment and you will also be living in it, so the decision needs to be the right one. There is no substitute here for doing your homework. A motorhome that is the perfect fit for one person wil not work at all for others, so you will need to make your own unique decision on what will suit you best. Here are some ways to help insure that you get the information you need before you buy:

  • Start reading as many RV magazines as you can. There is a wealth of information in these journals, but it spread out all over the place over several months. Try to get several back issues of the major magazines that deal with RVs and motorhomes and get familiar with the brands and what is said about them.

  • Get the buyers guides from Trailer Life and Woodall's that are published annually and have lots of information about most major motorhome brands and models. Take into consideration the recommendations that are made. Usually these buyers guides are available at bookstores, RV dealers, and especially online.

  • Go to local RV shows and actually go through all the coaches there to see what features are available and to just get familiar with motorhomes and what they offer. It's good to talk to the representatives there but be careful not to feel pressured into making a decision there at the show no matter how much they say that you will be missing. Your mission at the first few shows is just to gather facts and information. The buying comes later.

  • Talk to actual motorhome buyers, especially full-timers who spend a lot of time in their rigs, if that is what you also plan to do. If necessary visit some local RV parks and just ask for opinions. There is usually no shortage of those to go around, and you can learn a lot from people who have no finacial incentive in steering you one way or the other.

  • Before you buy anything, rent that type of motorhome first and use it for at least a few days to see if it really does fit your needs well. It's usually money that is well spent. Sometimes the motorhome that you think you want doesn't turn out to be what you expected it would be after yusing it in the real world. So renting before you buy is great insurance against making a wrong decision.
What To Do Before You Sell Your Motorhome:
  • If you have decided to sell your motorhome, you first want to know for sure how much it is worth. Consult the Kelly Blue Book or visit nadaguides.com to find out what your coach is worth. Look through the RV trader and local clasified ads for similar motorhomes and see what they are selling for. This will help you know more clearly how to price your motorhome fairly.

  • Once you have an interested buyer, allow them to have an experienced RV merchanic look over your coach to make sure that it is in good working order. Be careful not to let anyone take the coach overnight though without a refundable deposit and plenty of clear identification.

  • Never hand over the keys to your motorhome until all of the papers have been signed and you have received a verifiable payment. Make sure that personal checks are good before completing the sale. This is a lot of money and you don't want to lose out in this stage because of a bad check.

  • If going through the whole process of selling the motorhome yourself seems like a huge hassle that just isn';t worth, you can also sell it through a dealer on consignment. You get the advantage of them handling a lot of the difficult stuff for you and saving you lots of time and work, but the cost is that you will forfeit some of the profit at the sale.
